Tori Amos to perform at Mizner

After wrapping up her two-month European tour in Frankfurt, Germany, Tori Amos is bringing her sexy smooth sounds to Boca Raton's Mizner Park Amphitheater on Feb. 20.

Along with her signature piano playing, Amos will be joined on stage by her bandmates bassist Jon Evans and drummer Matt Chamberlain. Amos says the performance will resemble a traditional jazz combo without traditional jazz music.

Instead Amos will be sampling songs from her latest album, 2002's Scarlet's Walk in a way that is different from the recorded version but typical of her live performances. It's her first CD of new music in over three years.

The album, which was propelled by the events of 9/11, tells the story of a woman named Scarlett and her journey across America. "I found after the tragedy that people began asking questions. And sometimes by asking these questions, they were called unpatriotic. I started to see people have a relationship to the land that they never had before," Amos said.

As far as the lack of insight by popular radio artists into America's worst act of terrorism, Amos says they never really commented on things of that nature before so why would they now. "It's a reflection of the industry," said Amos.

Amos is looking forward to coming to Florida because it will reunite her with her parents and give her time to relax at her Martin County beach house.

"It puts me in a good rhythm after touring for so long and helps everyone get refocused for the next leg of the U.S. tour," said Amos.

Quiet time is definitely important now that Amos is balancing music and family. Her two-year-old daughter, Natasha, and music engineer husband, Hawley Cornwall, travel alongside her as she performs around the world.

"It's challenging... sometimes we have to rearrange our schedule to accommodate her, but we haven't canceled a show yet."

Currently, Amos isn't doing any song writing while on tour. Her goals do include continuing to make music that she respects and enjoys playing, and she hopes her audiences will come away with a memorable experience.

Opening for Amos will be Jeffrey Gaines, For tickets and information, contact the Mizner Park Amphitheater box office at (561) 962-4109. The amphitheater is located on Federal Highway between Glades Road and Palmetto Park Road in Boca Raton.
