cK Calvin Klein to sponsor "Unlock the Silence," a program in support of RAINN -- the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network
Benefit concert with Tori Amos to kick off year-long initiative

December 4, 1996, New York, N.Y. -- cK Calvin Klein today announced its sponsorship of "Unlock the Silence," a year-long program in support of RAINN -- the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network, a not-for-profit organization located in Washington, D.C. which operates a free, 24-hour hotline for survivors of sexual assault.

This unique initiative will partner all of the products in the cK Calvin Klein lifestyle -- including women's and men's apparel, jeans-wear, shoes and bags, eyewear, underwear, and cosmetics -- with Atlantic Records recording artist Tori Amos, herself a survivor of sexual assault and a founding member of RAINN. The sponsorship will be a global effort to include a benefit concert and extensive retail promotions, with a goal to raise $500,000.

"We're very proud to be a part of a program that brings together the worlds of music and fashion to support such an important organization," said Calvin Klein. "The work that RAINN does in supporting victims of abuse and assault in raising awareness of this issue is vital."

"I believe that the most painful effect of abuse is self hate," said Tori Amos. "We take in someone's hatred of us and turn it on ourselves, so that no matter how far or fast we run we're always with ourselves. Only we can free ourselves from that belief. And we can free ourselves."

On Thursday, January 23, the program kicks off with a benefit concert for RAINN performed by Tori Amos at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City (tickets on sale December 9 -- available through Ticketmaster). The concert is sponsored by cK Calvin Klein and LIFETIME television's "THE PLACE" -- a new, two-hour programming block for young women 18-34, which permieres Friday, January 24, from 7-9pm EST/PT. Immediately following the premiere program, LIFETIME will air a Tori Amos special in celebration of the launch (9-10pm EST/PT) to include the concert as well as celebrity public service announcements for RAINN. An exclusive post-concert party will be sponsored by cK Calvin Klein, its new fragrance cK be and SPIN magazine. Guests will include members of the New York fashion press and celebrity friends of RAINN.
