Pirates

Lyrics by Tori Amos

Traveled far
from my home
foreign streets
paved with stone
deep in my dreams
Moroccan sand
now I sail my ship
on dry land

There is a light that
shines on the frontier
Pirates, yeah
Pirates
and on a dark night
when you feel lonely
and the world just
can't understand you
Pirates, yeah
Pirates

Steal the jewel
watch it break
it cuts with an eye
I can't escape
the ruby heals
alone I stand
when I sail my ship
on dry land

There is a light that
shines on the frontier
and baby someday
we're gonna be there
Pirates, yeah
Pirates
and on a dark night
when you feel lonely
and when the world just
can't understand you
Pirates, yeah
Pirates

There is a light that
shines on the frontier
Pirates, yeah
Pirates
There is a light that
shines on the frontier

Tori Quotes

I read recently that you are doing something on this tour that you never have: playing tunes from your notorious, short-lived '80s synth-pop group Y Kant Tori Read. I almost can't believe it.

I know, right? Oh my God. I can't believe it either. [Laughs.] The kids were requesting it. A whole bunch of them dressed up as pirates! [A reference to a song on the self-titled album.] They had wigs, they had brandishing swords, the whole thing, like 20 of them. And I thought, oh my goodness what a presentation, I cannot deny them. [The Boston Globe - August 14, 2014]
