Amos Hits Interstellar Overdrive On "to venus and back"

New Double-CD Set Lands in Stores Today

NEW YORK -- (ENTERTAINMENT WIRE) -- As Tori Amos wraps up her ovation-stirring "5½ Weeks Tour" with Alanis Morissette, her latest Atlantic album, "to venus and back," hits retail shelves today. The unique double-CD/cassette collection features an all-new full-length studio album, plus a second disc recorded live in concert during Tori's acclaimed 1998 world tour. Among its many advance critical raves, the album has just received a four-star review from Rolling Stone, which notes that "'to venus and back' testifies to just how wide and deep her river runs."

Amos winds up her itinerary with Morissette with a pair of shows, on September 25th & 26th, at Irvine Meadows Amphitheater in Laguna Hills, California. From there, Tori and her band continue on the road for a slate of headlining dates, beginning September 29th at the Starplex in Dallas, Texas.

Coinciding with the release of "to venus and back," Amos appears tonight on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, performing "1000 Oceans." Next month, she is slated for appearances on Late Night With Conan O'Brien (October 14th) and The Rosie O'Donnell Show (October 20th). Other upcoming television appearances include The View, Charlie Rose, and segments on CNN's Showbiz Today and Access Hollywood. Amos kicked off the Labor Day weekend with a Good Morning America live outdoor mini-concert on September 3rd in New York City's Central Park. On August 12th, just prior to hitting the concert circuit with Morissette, Tori introduced "Bliss," the first single from "to venus and back," on the Late Show with David Letterman.

On August 13th, "Bliss" was first offered as a secure downloadable track for purchase via multiple online retailers across the country. The ground-breaking sales initiative marked the first time that a major label had made a downloadable single commercially available across-the-board throughout the Internet retail community. Two separate singles from "to venus and back" - "Bliss" and "1,000 Oceans" - are both currently ensconced in the top 25 of the Billboard "Top Singles Sales" chart.

The studio disc of "to venus and back" - entitled "orbiting" - features eleven new Amos-penned and produced songs recorded with the members of her touring band - longtime collaborator Steve Caton on guitar, Matt Chamberlain on drums, and Jon Evans on bass - with Tori on vocals, Bosendorfer piano, and synths. The "to venus and back" live disc, Amos's first live album, is entitled "live, still orbiting" and was recorded during Tori's "Plugged '98" marathon world trek, which marked her first-ever tour with a full band.

"to venus and back" is Amos's fifth Atlantic solo release, following "LITTLE EARTHQUAKES" (1992), "UNDER THE PINK" (1994), "BOYS FOR PELE" (1996), and "from the choirgirl hotel" (1998).
